You know it’s become a really awkward situation when the first person to speak publicly about the Chicago Cubs possibly replacing their manager after a successful first year and after backing him when the season ended … is that manager.

Rick Renteria offered his statement to Bruce Miles and Gordon Wittenmyer, who tweeted it out:

That’s a pretty classy move, all things considered. Obviously it doesn’t really provide us with much in the way of information, but it just strikes me as an abundance of professionalism on Renteria’s part to say something (and, in this case, to say the right thing). This is just a tough situation.



Whatever happens, I remain of the mind that all involved will figure out a way to do this the best way possible, and not wind up with burned bridges and nasty feelings.
