Presenting the saddest tweet you’ll read in a good long while:
Beane confirms #Athletics targeting young shortstops in deals.

I picture Billy Beane sitting in a dimly lit office, sipping a bourbon and holding a framed portrait of Addison Russell. Harry Nilsson starts playing in the background as a single tear rolls down Billy’s face …
But seriously, the Samardzija/Hammel/Russell/McKinney/Straily trade was an understandable go-for-it deal at the time, and it simply didn’t work out. And now, particularly given that Hammel is returning to the Cubs (and the A’s still owe the Cubs a PTBNL), I do feel a little bad for the A’s.
Not bad enough to do anything about it or think about their plight beyond the final keystroke of this post, but, yeah, a little bad.
