arizona cactusAh, the final “Spring Training Update” before the feature yields way to the “Spring Training Miscellany.” The distinction, in terms of the name, is completely arbitrary, but, since we’ll have ACTUAL GAMES TOMORROW, this space will also be discussing the games. And, since that has traditionally been called “Spring Training Miscellany,” that’s what it’ll stay.

That was just a bunch of throat-clearing, and the most important is the only part you saw: actual games tomorrow. Yes, two games. An embarrassment of riches after an exciting offseason and a painful wait for baseball.

The Cubs will open their home Cactus League slate against the A’s at 2pm CT, and their road slate in Scottsdale against the Giants at 2pm CT. Travis Wood will start the game at Sloan Park, while Jacob Turner will start on the road. The game against the A’s will be available as audio at Cubs.com, and it looks like audio for the Giants game will be available at MLB.com and/or the Giants’ site. You can have one game in your left ear, and the other in your right ear. It’ll work.

As for the relievers that might get in:

Joe Maddon also told the media that the first five in the A’s game would be Dexter Fowler, Anthony Rizzo, Starlin Castro, Miguel Montero, and Javier Baez, but, of course, cautioned against reading too much into the lineup at this point (Rogers, Muskat). I’ll take him at his word there, but I will say that I’m completely on board with having Rizzo bat second – it’s the spot for the best hitter on the team, and, right now, that’s clearly Rizzo.

Get yourself excited. Baseball tomorrow. At last.

Some visuals to get you there …

And one more of Soler … how is his bat doing that? Is it in the process of breaking? Optical illusion?
