Hopefully you’re enjoying some minor league Cubs action on this second Opening Day (so far, looks like the youngsters are playing well), but if you’re missing big league action, maybe this will help.
The Cubs beat the Cardinals yesterday, which is great, but they’ve played just twice in the first five days of the season. I’m jonesing.
So let’s watch Jake Arrieta mow down some Cardinals again:
My favorite three strikeouts: the perfectly-located slutter on which Matt Carpenter knows he has no shot, so he just walks away; the one where Kolten Wong nearly swings himself out of his shoes; and, of course, the completely hilarious, and completely unfair yacker he throws to Lance Lynn to end his outing.
I also really enjoyed this, even though it wasn’t a strikeout pitch:
Sorry, Jhonny. You didn't need that bat, did you? pic.twitter.com/nkpb3bV0Wb

As for the performance, I’d say Arrieta’s catcher – who’s caught many pitchers in his day – says it best:
@JArrieta34 the nasties pitcher I ever catch and I catch a lot

I believe him.
