For a guy who really doesn’t have that bad of a swing, it was a little surprising that Jon Lester came into tonight 0-71 for his career at the plate. Pitcher, yes. But even terrible hitting pitchers get hits.

And, at long last, Jon Lester did it:

Infield single, maybe, but that ball looked to be ticketed for center if it hadn’t hit Lackey. That actually proved to be unfortunate, because it would have scored a run – a run that didn’t end up scoring when Addison Russell subsequently struck out looking at a pitch that was a good six inches off the plate.

Cheers, Jon Lester! You’re a star tonight, no matter what else happens!

Well, maybe that’s not quite true.
