The cold, damp, post-game walk proved to be a good thing for me for two reasons: (1) it gave me a chance, and an excuse, to buy myself some ice cream; and (2) it gave me a chance to reflect on a game that … really wasn’t all that terrible when you think about it.

Sure, it always sucks to lose, especially to the Cardinals, and especially-especially on a two-run homer in the 9th. But consider the fact that the Cubs were facing one of the best young starters in the game, lost their own starter after the first inning, and had to come back from a 4-0 deficit.

Would it have been awesome if they’d completed the full comeback and held on to win the game? (Or if Starlin Castro’s ball landed two inches to the right and scored a couple insurance runs?) Of course. But shutting the Cardinals down until the 9th and scoring five runs against Wacha? That was really something.

Maybe you didn’t take a post-game walk and you’re not in the mood for pick-me-ups (not even ice cream?). But that’s where I landed, and that’s coming from a guy who felt the extreme highs and lows in the bleachers tonight. My throat is raw (which, again, ice cream).

One more positive thing, though, before you go …
