miguel montero cubsI had this Convalescence Watch rolling around in the drafts for two days during the Blogathon, trying to find a window to post it. I never really found a good one, so, since I’m out of pocket today, I scheduled this for publication. Hopefully nothing crazy happened while I was sleeping or traveling to make this totally wrong.

Miguel Montero seems to have received good news – or at least good enough news – on his sprained thumb. He feels like he’s ready to return, though a rehab stint to get back up to game speed will probably be necessary first (Cubs.com, ESPN). Montero is already swinging a bat, so, if he’s cleared soon, he could conceivable do a short rehab stint and be back with the Cubs by mid-August. From there, the Cubs would have so many interesting match-up opportunities given the versatility that Kyle Schwarber and Chris Coghlan have shown recently.

LA STELLAAAAAA!!! Tommy La Stella (oblique) once again took to a rehab assignment at Tennessee this week – the same team with which his first rehab assignment ended so ignominiously back in May. He hasn’t played in the big leagues since the first week of the season, and it might be a couple weeks before he’s ready to come back to the big leagues. From there, we’ll see if he can contribute off the bench with his high-contact lefty bat, and/or if he works his way into some kind of rotation.

Keep Reading BN ...
