It was an ugly first inning for both teams, but, unfortunately for the Cubs, that was the Giants’ only ugly frame. The Cubs didn’t do much offensively thereafter despite a few good chances, and the third time through the Giants’ order bit Kyle Hendricks.

The Cubs weren’t going to win every game from here on out, though it makes you uneasy to see them lose this one heading into back-to-back games against Madison Bumgarner and Clayton Kershaw.
