Outside of the obligatory Kyle Schwarber homer, offense was non-existent in this one until the 7th inning when Justin Grimm’s struggles and an Anthony Rizzo error opened the door to a five-run inning for the Phillies. It would have been easy for the Cubs to close up shop from there, but they immediately responded with a four-run 8th to tie the game.
Unfortunately for the Cubs – and the roller coaster of emotions in your stomach – Hector Rondon gave up the dreaded two-out walk in the 9th, and Cody Asche ended it with a two-run shot.
Hell of an effort from the Cubs’ bullpen game “starters” Travis Wood and Trevor Cahill. Unfortunately the bullpen part of the bullpen game gave it up.
