One of my very first (Cub-related) memories of Joe Maddon comes from the #RespectBald event, held at the beginning of Spring Training 2015.
As you’ll recall, last Spring, Maddon organized a fundraiser for pediatric cancer research, using his #RespectX motto; many Cubs players were involved, a lot of money was raised, and a happy day was had by all.
But more importantly, I remember thinking, Maddon was involved, himself, donating money and time, while allowing his head to be shaved. I was impressed by the Cubs’ new skipper and his dedication to philanthropy. The entire event was a huge success, it was easy to discuss, share and laugh about and, frankly, I wanted to be there to see it all go down.
Lucky for me, the team is holding the 2nd Annual “Respect Bald” Fundraiser this Saturday at 11:00am and I’ll be there!
There are more details, here at Cubs.com, but here’s the short version from the Cubs release:
The second “Respect Bald” fundraiser will be held Saturday near Field 1 at Sloan Park before the game against the Reds. Players and coaches will get their heads shaved to raise money for pediatric cancer research. Fans can get a trim, too, for a $100 donation. The event will begin at 11 a.m. MT.
How do you think I’d look bald?
