Tonight’s game against the Giants has been a truly weird one (at last check, the Cubs were leading 13-11, and we’re still in the fifth), featuring Jake Arrieta getting smacked around in the first (and pulled because of a blister), a jawing match between Jason Heyward and Madison Bumgarner (more on that later), and an extreme back-and-forth contest featuring plenty of offense and basically no defense or pitching.

To that end, Cubs prospect Jeimer Candelario, already having an outrageous Spring Training, had the opportunity to add to it with this bomb off of none other than Bumgarner:

Does that go out at Wrigley Field in April? No. I’m not even sure it makes the warning track.

But you’re still talking about hard contact – something Candelario’s had in spades this Spring (and last fall, and last summer) – off of Madison Bumgarner. That’s just fun.

Candelario, who was already cut from big league camp and will start the season in the minors at AA or AAA, is going to be a really fun one to watch this year. That bat might just be in the middle of an explosion.
