It’s game two of the exhibition series in Las Vegas against the Mets. The Cubs took game one, so they go for the SWEEP today, and it will be the only recent sweep involving these two teams of which I have any recollection whatsoever.
Jason Hammel gets his final pre-season tune up today, with his trusty steed Kyle Schwarber behind the plate. With one exception, it’s a lineup of regulars for the Cubs against lefty Steven Matz.
Despite tentative expectations, Dexter Fowler sits again today. He left a game five days ago with side tightness that was later described as just about nothing at all … but he’s still not playing. That’s not necessarily a reason for concern for the regular season – you can afford to be extra cautious right now – but you’d hate to see him going out there on Opening Night more than a week removed from last facing in-game pitching. For that reason, today would have made a lot of sense to get Fowler in the game, as I’m expecting that very few regulars will appear in the exhibition game in Anaheim on Sunday. I’m guessing Fowler will, though.
Kris Bryant gets the rare call to lead off in the absence of Fowler.
Today’s game will be televised on WGN-9, and MLB.TV. Additional audio of the game will also be available on MLB.com or through the AtBat app. For future reference, you can check which games will be televised here.
