As you can see, Javier Baez and Christian Villanueva hit the disabled list, officially, today, as well as pitchers Dallas Beeler and Aaron Brooks.

I know Beeler did not appear all Spring, so he’s been out for a while (and his injury is listed as the ominous “shoulder inflammation”), but Brooks had been pitching. Brooks’ injury is listed as a left hip contusion (bruise), so¬†hopefully it’s not serious. He was the return in the Chris Coghlan trade, and, long-term, he could be a useful bullpen or back-end starter piece. He’ll head to AAA Iowa whenever he’s ready to return.

All of those stints are backdated to March 25, and are of the 15-day variety.

If the need for a 40-man roster spot should arise, some of those could be moved to 60-day DL stints (Villanueva, for example, is out with a broken leg). For now, no space is needed, so there’s no sense in doing anything but a 15-day stint right now.

Baez is expected back in time for the Cubs’ home opener next week.

You’ll also see Zac Rosscup on the 60-day DL (left shoulder inflammation) – if you missed it, that was announced the day of the Coghlan trade/Fowler re-signing.
