The Brewers will try to hand the Cubs their first three game losing streak of the season and third series loss of the year (to fairly uncompetitive teams, no less).
The Cubs will, uh, try to make that not happen.
John Lackey takes the ball for the North-siders and he’ll be opposed by righty Jimmy Nelson.
Chicago Cubs Lineup at Milwaukee Brewers (Jimmy Nelson):
- Dexter Fowler, CF
- Jason Heyward, RF
- Kris Bryant, LF
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Ben Zobrist, 2B
- Tommy La Stella, 3B
- Addison Russell, SS
- David Ross, C
- John Lackey, P
Kris Bryant makes his 17th start in the outfield tonight, which is only two fewer than his 19 starts at third base. He’s dangerously close to being “Cubs outfielder, Kris Bryant.” Taking his place at third base is Tommy La Stella, who’s played second fiddle to both Javier Baez and Jorge Soler in terms of starts over the past week or so, but has gotten off to a great start to the season.
The other interesting bit is that Miguel Montero is on the bench in favor of David Ross, despite not catching on Sunday (Jon Lester pitched) and an off-day on Monday. It’s likely that the Cubs are just trying to ease Montero back into the mix, as he returns from his back issue. (Also, there’s a day game tomorrow, so maybe this isn’t as intriguing as it looks on its face).
