chicago cubs hype trainBovada just released a range of updated baseball odds, including the World-Series-winning Chicago Cubs … er, um, if the odds are to be believed. The Cubs are 15/4 odds-on favorites to win the World Series, which is undoubtedly inflated by the volume of Cubs fans who want to bet on the team. But, although I’d never take those odds myself, the Cubs being at the top of the pyramid at this point sure sounds about right.

The next closest odds – the Red Sox and Giants, each at 8/1 – are not especially close.

Furthermore, the Cubs are 9/5 favorites to win the NL, and almost hilariously strong favorites in the NL Central: 1/14. That’s right – the oddsmakers have the Cubs as such strong favorites to win the NL Central at this point that you’d have the bet $14 just to win $1. The Pirates are at 9/1, and the Cardinals are at 14/1.

Currently, the Cubs hold a 6.5 game lead over the Pirates and an 8.5 game lead over the Cardinals. But it’s only June 1.

Included in the range of odds below, you’ll see some of the various possible award winners, including Clayton Kershaw as the strong favorite to take home not only Cy Young honors, but also MVP.

It’s rare that I see a good bet involving the Cubs, but Anthony Rizzo at 33/1 for MVP? If he gets hot and the Cubs keep cruising, I could see him quickly getting back in that discussion.

Jake Arrieta (7/2) is just behind Kershaw in the Cy Young odds, but interestingly, the other Cub that shows up is Jason Hammel, with the 8th best odds (16/1).

Peruse the odds for yourself and ponder the curiosities …
