When Jon Lester gave up a leadoff homer to Enrique Hernandez, and when Mike Bolsinger was hanging breaker after breaker in the early innings, I don’t think anyone expected we were about to see a pitcher’s duel.
That is to say, I liked the match-up for Lester, but, after one in the first, I figured a dominating outing was a lot less likely. And I certainly didn’t think that Kris Bryant’s two-run homer in the third inning was going to be the game-winner.
But it was. And it was because after that Hernandez homer in the first, Jon Lester was freaking lights out in the extreme for nine straight innings. Just four hits? No walks? Ten strikeouts?
