The Cubs come home today for a series against the Pirates, and they’ll kick things off against Francisco Liriano with a unique lineup.

Chicago Cubs Lineup vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (Francisco Liriano):

  3. Ben Zobrist, 2B
  4. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
  5. Albert Almora Jr., RF
  6. Javy Baez, 3B

Kris Bryant and Jason Heyward get the day off today, which is understandable, as Joe Maddon has preferred to give his regulars days off after or before a team off-day, creating a longer break. The only rub from where I sit is that, with those two on the bench (as well as Chris Coghlan), Willson Contreras might not be the first guy for a pinch hit opportunity.

Otherwise, it’s hard to complain about the lineup when there are regulars getting rest. Contreras was not expected to catch Arrieta at this point, and Miguel Montero works well with the Cubs’ ace. Otherwise, the Cubs get plenty of righties in there against Liriano, including Albert Almora Jr. and Matt Szczur, drawing the rare start.
