I’ve gotta head out for the game, but I wanted to make sure and get a few things in front of you.

  • After the trade with the Indians fell through, it sounds like the Rangers stepped up to try and get catcher Jonathan Lucroy from the Brewers, and there’s a big chip on the table:

  • Gallo has been one of the top prospects in the game for a good long while thanks to one of the most thunderous swings around, and he’s crushing AAA at age 22. The question has always been whether he could curtail the swing and miss enough for the power to really shine through. There are some who like Gallo more than others, though I think it’s fair to question why the Rangers haven’t given him a real shot to break in with the big league team this year, despite periodic openings at first base and in left field. He’s a third baseman by trade, but he can play first and in the outfield corners.
  • Meanwhile, that start against the Cubs really must’ve pushed Wade Miley over the edge into the “tradable” zone, as he’s headed to the Orioles for 27-year-old Cuban defector Ariel Miranda (solid numbers in the minors since coming over last year, but hard to know what he really is).
  • Rich Hill has made two full starts since May because of a groin injury and a blister, and is currently on the DL. He had previously looked like the most obvious rental pitcher on the trade market, but I doubt the A’s are finding offers to their liking. Hence this bit of gamesmanship:

  • The Diamondbacks are getting a “ton” of interest in Shelby Miller, who has bombed this year after the Diamondbacks sent a massive package to the Braves to acquire him this offseason. He’s still only 25, and under control for multiple years. The D-Backs probably won’t sell low enough to move him, but it’s at least interesting to consider.
  • In case you’d heard otherwise, Jon Heyman says the Rockies are not planning to trade any of their outfielders.
  • It would seem silly for the Yankees not to trade Beltran at this point:

OK. I’ve gotta head out to the game. More later.
