dusty sleeping blogathonI am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, on Twitter (hash tag #BNBlogathon for those who want to jump into the fray themselves), and on Snapchat – for 39 hours straight, until slightly past MLB’s August 1 non-waiver Trade Deadline, thanks to your generous donations to Make-A-Wish. I’ll be doing recaps on the process throughout the day, but you’ll also see normal posting (Bullets, news, Pre-Gamin’, EBS, etc.), as well as a significant uptick in rumor/trade posts.

The brain is really goin’ on me. I just did an interview on ESPN1000 with Dave Kaplan, which went fine, but it pretty much used up whatever stores of sharp focus I had left. This sentence has taken me a very long time to type.

News and Rumors Since the Last Check-In:

Things! There’s a rumor about the Cubs and Angels reliever Joe Smith. Jay Bruce is maybe going to the Mets. The Dodgers landed BOTH Josh Reddick and Rich Hill. The Cubs released Brian Matusz. The Reds might trade their starting shortstop. The Giants traded a whole lot to get Will Smith.

Most Interesting Tidbit Since the Last Recap:

For me, it’s that Dodgers trade. Landing two of the best rentals on the market – for a hefty prospect price – in a year where you’re already facing so many injury issues. It’s ballsy, but the Dodgers do instantly become a lot better (assuming Hill can pitch again soon). And if Clayton Kershaw comes back in a few weeks? They could easily be the NL West favorite again.

Current Thoughts About the Chicago Cubs’ Trade Deadline Strategy/Execution:

I don’t immediately see the appeal in Joe Smith, but I’ll give that a minute to breathe, because maybe there’s some flukey explanation for his struggles this year of which I’m not yet aware. Still hoping to see the Cubs pick up a depth starting pitcher, just in case.

Current Beverage/Stimulant of Choice:

Dr. Pepper 10. Because I’m having a PB&J.

Stopped by a couple more Wrigley spots in this stretch:

Strangest Thought Passing Through My Mind:

I’m thinking about running two miles at the very end of the Blogathon as an enticement to get more donations for Make-A-Wish.
