The Cubs jumped on Adam Wainwright from the very first batter of the game, and it was straight uphill from there. Jake Arrieta was very good, the bats kept on coming, and the game was a laugher before the second inning was over.
The Cubs got two homers from Matt Szczur, another from Willson Contreras, another from Jorge Soler, and another Javy Baez. Not one of those guys started last night’s game. This is a deep roster, my friends.
It was quite a bit of fun, and the win ensured, at worst, a series split. If the Cardinals were to have even the slimmest of hopes of coming back in the NL Central, they needed to take three of four in this series. That won’t happen now.
The Cubs are now up to 11 straight wins …
