The Chicago Cubs took game one against the Padres late last night, and they’ll try to clinch the three-game series with a win tonight.
Jake Arrieta takes the bump for Chicago, and is looking to bounce back from a rough start last time out.
Here’s his support:
Chicago Cubs Lineup v. San Diego Padres (Christian Friedrich):
- Dexter Fowler, CF
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Ben Zobrist, LF
- Addison Russell, SS
- Jason Heyward, RF
- Javy Baez, 2B
- Willson Contreras, C
- Jake Arrieta, P
There aren’t many surprises in the lineup above, now that we know Willson Contreras could be regularly catching Jake Arrieta down the stretch, although there is one notable absence: Jorge Soler.
Soler sits once again, only this time it comes against a lefty. If he’s not going to get into a game where Contreras is catching (and thus not in left field) and a lefty (Christian Friedrich) is starting opposite the Cubs, I’m a little concerned about that foul ball he took off the knee this weekend. It’s a bit of a bummer, especially considering Friedrich’s career splits, but, to be fair, he does have a reverse split here in 2016. Hopefully Soler is back to 100% soon enough (and/or he already is, and this was just a pure lineup decision).
We’ll have a full Pre-Gamin’ for you closer to game time.
