The Chicago Cubs simply refuse to slow down as the calendar turned to September, and took game one against the San Francisco Giants last night at Wrigley Field.
They’re up to 86 wins now, with 29 games still left to be played … save some for October, boys (or don’t and just never stop winning ever again … your call).
Chicago Cubs Lineup v. San Francisco Giants (Albert Suarez)
- Dexter Fowler, CF
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Ben Zobrist, 2B
- Chris Coghlan, LF
- Jason Heyward, RF
- Javy Baez, SS
- David Ross, C
- Jon Lester, P
The relatively big surprise here, of course, is that David Ross is catching Jon Lester (well, not that) in a day game immediately following a night game (that). But then again, Joe Maddon wants what Joe Maddon wants:

Day game after night game atypical for any catcher, let alone older dude. But hey, let him play. "Forever Young." https://t.co/x8nshKHSeD

I haven’t questioned Maddon’s maniacally mad methods yet, and I don’t plan on starting today.
Javy Baez takes the start at shortstop, giving Addison Russell a rest, and Chris Coghlan is back in left field. This is the second day in a row without Willson Contreras in the starting lineup. Perhaps the skipper is giving him his two days of rest (which he likes to do with his starters from time to time) now.
We’ll have a full Pre-Gamin’ for you closer to game time.
