wrigley stands crowdThe Cubs took game one last night against the Giants, on the strength of five perfect innings from the bullpen.

If they win today, they can guarantee a series split, going into back-t0-back starts from Jake Arrieta and John Lackey at home. I’d very much like to see that.

It’s Jon Lester who takes the ball this afternoon, though, coming off another nice start in Los Angeles – his sixth straight start of at least six innings pitched and two or fewer earned runs. He’ll pitch to David Ross, as usual, who also caught last night’s opener. #ForeverYoung.

Opposing Lester and the Cubs is 26-year-old rookie Albert Suarez. Suarez has made seven starts for the Giants this season, collecting a 4.35 ERA (4.31 FIP) in the process. He gets a fair amount of ground balls (47.6%), but doesn’t strike many batters out (17.6%). The Cubs patience should carry them through this start. With Madison Bumgarner and Johnny Cueto scheduled to pitch tomorrow and Sunday, it would behoove the Cubs to win this game against a beatable pitcher with Lester on the mound.

First pitch is at 1:20 CT.
