The Chicago Cubs won an utterly ridiculous and delicious game on July 31, and sprung off of it into a 22-6 month of August. It was a heck of a run that was powered by a range of players, but none more than Kyle Hendricks and Kris Bryant.

And this pretty much says it all:

Both players were absolutely otherworldly in the month (and you’ll recall that Hendricks had a good argument for player of the month back in July, too), and each heads into the final month of the season with a real shot at winning the year-long equivalents of these monthly awards.

Winning NL Player or Pitcher of the Month honors is a really incredible thing, when you think about how few players ever have this shot. For the Cubs to get BOTH this month? That’s just crazy awesome.
