Eloy Jimenez Joining the Myrtle Beach Pelicans for the Rest of the Playoffs

Cubs Minor Leagues and Prospects

Although he didn’t get a late-season promotion to High-A, 19-year-old outfield prospect Eloy Jimenez is getting a playoff promotion.

Fresh off a breakout season that saw him win virtually every available award in the Midwest League, Jimenez played with the South Bend Cubs until their playoff run ended yesterday. And, with an injury to Yasiel Balaguert at Myrtle Beach, there was a spot for Jimenez for the rest of their playoff run in the Carolina League Championship series.

As Luke noted this morning, the Pelicans lost the opener of the series, and will now need to win three of four to take home the championship. Having a bat like Jimenez’s available can’t hurt.

Game two of the championship series starts tonight at 5pm CT.
