The regular season finale is upon us, and the Cubs are set to welcome back a familiar face to their lineup.
This is what the Cubs’ starting lineup will look like for the 162nd game of the regular season.
Chicago Cubs Lineup v. Cincinnati Reds (Robert Stephenson):
- Dexter Fowler, CF
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Ben Zobrist, 2B
- Addison Russell, SS
- Jason Heyward, RF
- Jorge Soler, LF
- Willson Contreras, C
- Kyle Hendricks, P
Game 162 features the return of Jorge Soler to the starting lineup. He hasn’t seen game action since Sept. 24 and has only made six plate appearances since Sept. 16. Soler has been sidelined for most of that stretch with “right-side tightness.” The Cubs (and Soler) received some good news to start the weekend when his MRI came up clean.
Also sliding into Sunday’s starting lineup is Willson Contreras, who will catch Kyle Hendricks as he aims to keep his sub-2.00 ERA intact. This will be the 12th start in which Contreras has caught Hendricks this season.
The Cubs peppered Reds starter Robert Stephenson with four runs on eight hits and two walks in 3.2 innings when the teams last met on Sept. 21. Perhaps Soler, Contreras and the rest of the lineup can close the regular season with an encore performance.
