Here it is. The final day of the regular season. And we still don’t know exactly which two teams will be playing in the Wild Card Game for the right to face the Cubs in the NLDS.
… but we now know that one of the teams will be the Mets. Entering play today, the Mets have clinched not only a spot in the Wild Card Game, but they’ve also clinched the right for that game to be played at Citi Field. No three-way tiebreaker.
Either the Giants or the Cardinals will come to New York to face the Mets on Wednesday, but which one?
Well, it’s pretty simple: if the Giants win today, they’re in. If the Cardinals lose today, the Giants are in. But if the Giants lose and the Cardinals win? The two will have to play a tiebreaker tomorrow.
Adam Wainwright pitches today at 2pm CT (all games start then today, because it’s more fun that way) for the Cardinals, who’ll try to complete the sweep of the Pirates.
Matt Moore pitches for the Giants, as they try to sweep the Dodgers.
I’m very on board for a tiebreaker game between these two teams in advance of the Wild Card Game – a game that will be now by started by Noah Syndergaard for the Mets, by the way, making him unavailable again in the NLDS until Game Three – so go Cardinals today, and boo Giants.
