Tonight, the Chicago Cubs will play in the World Series. Still so much wow.
And here’s the group that’ll try to get things off on the right foot.
Chicago Cubs Lineup v. Cleveland Indians (Corey Kluber):
- Dexter Fowler, CF
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Ben Zobrist, LF
- Kyle Schwarber, DH
- Javy Baez, 2B
- Chris Coghlan, RF
- Addison Russell, SS
- David Ross, C
Right off the bat, you see the big name in there: Kyle Schwarber is back. Him starting tonight is not a surprise, but just seeing his name … goosebumps.
The bigger surprise is Chris Coghlan starting in right field, given that he’s not been a huge component of the Cubs’ postseason so far.
As Michael noted earlier today, Indians ace Corey Kluber is slightly more susceptible against lefties than righties, so, if the Cubs were going to sit Jason Heyward’s slumping bat, Coghlan is probably where you want to go. It makes you a little nervous to lose Heyward’s glove out there, but with Jon Lester on the mound, there might not be a ton of plays in right field anyway. Willson Contreras is probably the only other bat you’d have seriously considered, but since he’s a righty and might not be quite as polished in the outfield, I can understand this decision.
Also, this thing I mentioned yesterday
Not sure he gets DH nod, but why do we continue to forget that Chris Coghlan hit .284/.410/.433 after returning from injury in late-July?
