jaime garcia cardinalsInteresting.

Per Mark Saxon and Mark Bowman, the St. Louis Cardinals have cleared some of their rotation glut by sending oft-injured lefty Jaime Garcia to the Braves for prospects. Bowman indicates they are “mid-level” prospects, which is about what you’d expect for one year of Garcia, who can be quite good when he’s healthy (which is not always). Then again, he was the opposite in 2016: mostly healthy, and mostly not that good.

The Cardinals lose a little rotation depth, but gain some payroll flexibility in the move. Garcia, 30, was arguably behind Carlos Martinez, Adam Wainwright, Alex Reyes, Mike Leake, and a returning Lance Lynn already.

The Braves, in turn, continue their quest to accumulate pieces that might kinda-sorta make them not terrible next year.

I’ll have more on this as soon as I’m able – I’m frantically typing at The Little Girl’s gymnastics class. Bad dad, I know.

UPDATE: OK, I had a moment for one of the prospect names:

If you don’t remember the name, that’s the guy with the crazy windup. If memory serves, he’s not a bad prospect, but not a top guy (which would fit with Bowman’s description above).

Oh, and as I type, there’s the full deal:

Back to parenting.
