No Cubs Reunion for Travis Wood: He’s Off to Join the Royals (UPDATE)

Chicago Cubs News, MLB News and Rumors

Jorge Soler, Jason Hammel, Travis Wood. You’ve got your new AL team, right?

Like Soler and Hammel before him, Wood is off to join the Kansas City Royals:

The previously longest-tenured Cub, Wood now gets a meaningful shot to win a rotation spot that he wasn’t going to win in Chicago. In that respect, I can hardly blame him for his decision. I also applaud that he’s getting a two-year deal – I’d be surprised if he had a two-year offer on the table from the Cubs.

Best of luck to Wood with the Royals, whose rotation depth chart features locks Danny Duffy and Ian Kennedy at the top, Hammel a virtual lock in the middle, Jason Vargas coming back from Tommy John surgery, and then a group of guys fighting at the back. Wood has a very real chance of winning a rotation job in Kansas City.

Until the World Series rolls around, I say: Go Royals.

UPDATE: That’s a solid deal for Wood, especially at this point in the offseason:
