Kyle Schwarber runs the bases reasonably well, so don’t get me wrong. But I’m just going to say that he’s not a guy you’d traditionally expect to notch a bunch of triples. In 519 minor league at bats, Schwarber had just four triples.

Still, he picks his spots. Schwarber’s first big league hit was a triple. The hit that won him an MVP award at the Futures Game was a triple.

And he tripled in yesterday’s game, high off the batter’s eye in center field:

Any other direction, that’s long gone. You can almost see the moment where, after checking out his shot because he obviously crushed it, Schwarber realizes, “ah, crud, the batter’s eye is in play …. ”

That was Schwarber’s second triple of the Spring, having knocked one last week over Mike Trout’s head. Clearly, the guy is just getting ready to be a classic leadoff hitter …
