Addison Russell is Back: Immediately Makes Beautiful Play, Drives in a Run, Homers (VIDEOS)

Chicago Cubs Highlights

It wasn’t the very first play of the game, but it was close. It was the third.

Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell has been out of Spring Training action for more than a week with a tight back, and finally returned to the lineup tonight in an exhibition against the Astros.

Russell actually did get the first ball in play of the night by the Astros, a routine grounder which he fielded without issue. Much more interesting is what he did with the third ball in play – a rocket by Jose Altuve:

Yes, I’d say Russell is feeling pretty good. And looking good, too.

The next half inning, naturally, Russell drove in the first run of the game by lashing a single to right center:

Yup, still looking good.

Then, the very next inning, the young man who was having a blistering spring before his back issue popped up, ripped a homer to left:

Yup, still looking good.
