After a scary collision with Jason Heyward last night, it looked like Javy Baez might be out for a while.
And then he said he was all right, and “a while” turned into – in my mind, at least – a few days.
And then we learned that Baez didn’t even need the concussion protocol, and “a few days” turned into …
- Kyle Schwarber, LF
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Ben Zobrist, RF
- Addison Russell, SS
- Willson Contreras, C
- Javy Baez, 2B
- Kyle Hendricks, P
- Albert Almora Jr., CF
Just like that, he’s back. Javy Baez is truly feeling fine – and the Cubs have confidence that there will be no after-effects from his collision with Jason Heyward last night.
Speaking of whom, it’s Heyward who gets the night off against lefty Tommy Milone. Ben Zobrist slides out to right field, and Albert Almora Jr. comes into the lineup in center field.
Kyle Hendricks, the best fifth starter in baseball, makes his season debut and bats 8th. Hopefully his big stick is ready to protect Baez.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to Game Time.
