The Chicago Cubs were walked off again last night (second of the season already, each of the Cubs’ two losses), but this time it was of their own doing.
Mike Montgomery threw a wild pitch that Willson Contreras just couldn’t haul in, and Ryan Braun trotted in as the game’s final run in the 11th inning. Shrug. It happens.
Is it bad that last night’s walk-off-loss didn’t hit me that hard?
It’s too early in the season for my blood pressure to get that high this quickly. There’s plenty more games to go, starting with tonight’s rematch against Milwaukee.
Kyle Hendricks takes the ball for the Cubs tonight, and he’ll be looking to repeat a brilliant 2016 campaign that saw him compete for the NL Cy Young award. He typically pitches very well in Milwaukee, but perhaps he’ll get a little more offense behind him tonight than Brett Anderson did last night.
Opposing Hendricks is left-hander Tommy Milone, who has taken over for the Brewers’ Opening Day starter, Junior Guerra, who left his first start of the season with a strained right calf and could be out as much as six weeks.
Javy Baez returns to the lineup just a day after his scary collision with Jason Heyward.
