Willson Conteras is behind the plate once again tonight for starter Jon Lester, where he’s been for each of the lefty’s starts this season. With David Ross departing for the bright lights, it’s been an open question just how well the new duo would adjust.
While I’m not yet ready to pass upon the pairing’s efficacy just yet, I do want to say that it’s been so far, so good. As Michael noted in the Pre-Gamin’, Lester has basically been his usual self so far, and I would add that Contreras has also been his typical rocket-armed self, throwing out nearly 1/3 of the runners who’ve tried to steal against him (despite the often large leads they are accommodated).
Here’s hoping that Contreras shows it off even more tonight if runners reach base on Lester. Contreras certainly had the gun working last night:

That was a perfect, strong throw, which it pretty much had to be to get Josh Harrison.
