Cubs Minor League Daily: Good Day for Young, Bad Inning For Myrtle Beach

Cubs Minor Leagues and Prospects

Here’s hoping your May 4th was more like Chesny Young‘s and less like the Myrtle Beach Pelicans’.

Young doubled and collected five hits in Iowa’s doubleheader, playing three positions in the process (right, center, and second). That means Young has three straight multi-hit games under his belt, and that in turn has raised his batting average to .260. Keep in mind that it was just .213 on Monday.

Myrtle Beach, on the other hand, played eight great innings of baseball. Unfortunately the game contains nine innings, and in their case, the fourth inning was not kind. The Pelicans gave up nine runs in that inning; had it not been for an error by the pitcher (Hatch), they would have escaped with just one run allowed. Two runs were walked across the plate, and another scored on a wild pitch. Three pitchers were used in that inning. It was bad.

So, like I said, hopefully your day was better.

Triple A: Iowa Cubs
New Orleans 11, Iowa 5
Not a good way to start a doubleheader.

Iowa 2, New Orleans 1
A perfectly good way to finish a doubleheader.

Double A: Tennessee Smokies
Jacksonville 6, Tennessee 2
The Smokies took a shortlived lead in the bottom of the eighth.

High A: Myrtle Beach Pelicans
Buies Creek 9, Myrtle Beach 4
All nine runs for Buies Creek were scored in one horrific fourth inning.

Low A: South Bend Cubs

This game was rained out.
