The Cubs Did At Least Have Two Fantastic Defensive Plays Last Night (VIDEOS)

Chicago Cubs Highlights

Last night’s game didn’t go in the Cubs’ favor, and, in fact, was actually rather far from being competitive. Without any offensive to speak of, the Cubs never really had a shot.

But that doesn’t mean the game was entirely bereft of moments to enjoy.

For example, there was Jake Arrieta going all out to make a play on a tweener bouncer toward first base, showing off some of his athletics (via @MLB):

That was going to be a tough play no matter what, and, although you’d probably rather your pitcher didn’t lay himself out like that, Arrieta is sufficiently skilled that he can get away with it without hurting himself.

I think this double play, though, was even more impressive (via @Cubs):

Even with Adrian Gonzalez – not the fleetest of foot – running down the base line, that’s a double play that should basically never be completed.

… except Addison Russell got to the ball and got it over to second base so quickly that Ben Zobrist actually had a fair bit of time to make a strong turn and throw. I like that one.
