The Cubs kick off a road trip tonight in New York, but they’re bringing a bit of recent home with them. The lineup!
That is to say, there are some similarities here from yesterday’s win:
- Jon Jay, CF
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Ben Zobrist, LF
- Jason Heyward, RF
- Willson Contreras, C
- Javy Baez, 2B
- Addison Russell, SS
- John Lackey, P
Jon Jay leads off again for the Cubs after doing so yesterday, and the rest of the lineup is the same, except for Willson Contreras stepping in, and Javy Baez bumping down a spot.
Mets starter Jacob deGrom has never been a huge split guy, but lefties do hit him a little better than righties. It’s a little surprising, then, to see Kyle Schwarber sitting, but getting Jay in there requires someone to sit. Today, it’s Schwarber.
That’s the thing about the whole leadoff hitter dance – even if the Cubs felt like Jay was the best guy for the job (among a sea of imperfect options), they’ve gotta figure out the best way to get him in there.
As usual, we’ll have a full Pre-Gamin’ for you closer to game time (6:10 CT).
In the meantime, get yourself a deal:
