Pre-Gamin’: Cubs at Nationals (6:05 CT) – Lineups, Broadcast Info, Game Thread

Chicago Cubs News

I guess last night technically went well, didn’t it?

After all, a win’s a win once it’s in the books, and the ninth inning meltdown aside, the Cubs pulled off a win. All they need to do now is win one of their remaining three games to call this road series (against one of the best teams in baseball) a success.

Of course, doing it tonight won’t be too easy:

Unlike tonight’s Cubs’ starter, Jake Arrieta, Max Scherzer has won not one, but two Cy Young awards, with his most recent victory coming just last season.

In fact, Scherzer has finished in the top 5 of Cy Young voting in each of the last four years, and that doesn’t figure to change in 2017. In fact, Scherzer’s MLB leading 2.09 ERA and NL leading 3.4 fWAR probably make him the NL Cy Young front-runner at this point, as well.

Jake Arrieta on the other hand, has a 4.36 ERA (4.10 FIP) this season, and just 1.3 fWAR overall. With that said, his last start was a pretty good one against a tough Marlins lineup: 7.0 IP, 6H, 1ER, 0BB, 3Ks. Hopefully, he can pull off something similar tonight against an even tougher Nationals lineup. We’ll see.
