Rockies Getting Catcher Jonathan Lucroy, in What May Not Be a Timing Coincidence

Chicago Cubs Rumors, MLB News and Rumors

As the latest round of rumors are breaking involving the Cubs, Tigers, Justin Wilson, and Alex Avila, I can’t help but think the timing here is not a coincidence:

Consider that not only had the Cubs previously been connected to Lucroy, but the Rockies were probably considering Avila for their catcher spot. If Lucroy just shook out, could it be because Avila is also in the process of shaking out?

In the meantime, Lucroy, who has been brutal offensively this year, could plausibly rebound with the Rockies, who’ve gotten terrible production behind the plate. The Rockies are currently tied with the Diamondbacks atop the NL Wild Card standings.

Also, my oh my how Lucroy’s value was torn apart by his terrible year at the plate and in the receiving metrics:

To say he was not among the preferred catching targets around here would be an understatement.
