#BNBlogathon Check-In: Hour 28

Chicago Cubs Rumors, Meta

I am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, and on Twitter (hash tag #BNBlogathon for those who want to jump into the fray themselves) – for 40 hours straight, until a little past MLB’s July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline, thanks to your generous donations to Make-A-Wish. I’ll be doing recaps on the process throughout the day, but you’ll also see normal posting (Bullets, news, Pre-Gamin’, EBS, etc.), as well as a significant uptick in rumor/trade posts.

And to think, the first Blogathon was a mere 24 hours. Pfft. Childs play.

News and Rumors Since the Last Check-In:

Well, um … nothing really. We’re still waiting on one of the teams in on the big starting pitchers to flinch, which could shake much else loose.

I guess there’s this:

Most Interesting Tidbit Since the Last Recap:

Public ruminations from Joel Sherman about whether the Pirates and Cardinals should emerge as buyers or sellers today. It’s pretty remarkable that they could go either way (or do nothing) today. It’s that unclear. I should say that I don’t think Joe Smith salvages the Cardinals’ season, I think they have a valuable trade chip in Lance Lynn if they decide to sell.

Current Thoughts About the Chicago Cubs’ Trade Deadline Strategy/Execution:

There’s still plenty of time before the deadline, of course, but right now, you’ve gotta feel like they’ve done as well as any contender to improve their team in the near and medium term, without sacrificing from their big league roster. They had needs for a controllable starting pitcher, an impact reliever, and a back-up catcher. Check, check, check.

Current Beverage/Stimulant of Choice:

I had one of those Starbucks espresso shot can things. Lots of protein, which is a nice bonus with the caffeine.

Strangest Thought Passing Through My Mind:

The shorts I chose to wear out this morning are very short. Too short. I am everywhere.
