Ben Zobrist Did His Best Javy Baez Impression Last Night (VIDEO)

Chicago Cubs Highlights

Ben Zobrist’s defensive career has been marked more by steady play and versatility than highlight reel moments.

That’s especially been the case here in his time with the Cubs, as he moves into the second half of his 30s. But Zobrist isn’t totally without the ability to make a great play, as he showed off last night on a grounder I thought he had absolutely not shot at:

That’s a ball ticketed for center field and a good runner going down the line. Zobrist got an assist from Anthony Rizzo on the pick at first base, but, man, that’s a really good play by Zobrist. It is evocative of Javy Baez going up the middle for a snag, turn, and quick throw.

Even Zobrist seemed to be pleased with himself as the camera focused on him after the play.

Yeah, but Ben, how’s your air guitar?
