Pre-Gamin’: Cubs at Giants (2:45 CT) – Lineups, Broadcast Info, Game Thread

Pre-Gamin'

This game isn’t a must-win, because, well, I think that really only counts for elimination games or September series against divisional rivals, but boy would it be a nice one to take home.

The Cubs stand on the brink of three consecutive losing series, and they’ll have to go through Madison Bumgarner in his home ball park to avoid it. Fortunately, Kyle Hendricks has been getting some good results since his return from the disabled list, despite some (further) diminished velocity.

In his last start, Hendricks lasted 7.0 innings against the Nationals, while surrendering just three earned runs on five hits, two walks and five strikeouts. He did allow two homers, though, and that’s still a big risk considering where his velocity is now.

Madison Bumgarner’s latest start was similar, but he allowed just two earned runs on five hits and two walks (7Ks) against a good Arizona Diamondbacks team. And before that he shut out the best team in baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers, for 7.0 innings, giving up just five hits and one walk (7 more Ks). To say he’s locked in right now would be an understatement.

Hopefully, the winds of luck blow ever so slightly in the Cubs’ favor.
