With a win this afternoon, the Cubs can set a couple of season highs (games over .500 (16) and wins in a row (7)).
Here’s the group that’ll try:
- Ben Zobrist, 2B
- Albert Almora Jr., CF
- Kris Bryant, 3B
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Javy Baez, SS
- Ian Happ, LF
- Jason Heyward, RF
- Rene Rivera, C
- Mike Montgomery, P
Alright, alright. I can dig it.
Against the lefty Max Fried, Joe Maddon has tried to load his lineup with righties (and every time this happens, I’m reminded how many damn lefties the Cubs have on the roster). Ben Zobrist leads off and plays second base, followed by the lefty-killer Albert Almora Jr. Bryzzo follows, as usual, and then we get to … Javy Baez?
After a great second-half of the season at the plate (124 wRC+) and even better numbers against lefties overall (146 wRC+), the Cubs interim shortstop is batting fifth in the order, and I love it. I’ll bet he does some damage today.
Following Baez, is the Cubs rookie left fielder, Ian Happ, who, unfortunately, tends to struggle quite a bit against lefties (83 wRC+), despite a switch-hitting bat. And then it’s Heyward, Rivera (catching his second game in a row), and the pitcher, Mike Montgomery.
As usual, we’ll have your full Pre-Gamin’ closer to game time (1:20 CT).
