Javy Baez Departs Game After Fouling Ball Off Knee

Chicago Cubs News

Well, it wasn’t all fun and games in this one, as the Cubs had to hold their breath for a little bit after Javy Baez fouled the ball off of his knee.

Baez, who homered earlier in the game, went down hard:

It’s hard to see exactly where the ball hits, but it looks like the outside of his right knee, maybe up a little bit. There’s no way it wouldn’t hurt like crazy right there, but it might not necessarily be a long-term injury.

After getting up, walking around a bit, Baez finished the at bat – singling to left, naturally – and then was pulled, gingerly, for a pinch runner. The Cubs are up huge, and the game is almost over, so there was no reason to have him out there running the bases.

I’m sure we’ll have more on this soon, and with the Cubs so close to locking this thing up, at least they’ll soon have the benefit of plenty of time to rest bumps and bruises.
