Pre-Gamin’: Cubs at Cardinals (7:15 CT) – Lineups, Broadcast Info, Game Thread

Pre-Gamin'

Let’s go, Brewers – clap, clap, clap-clap-clap – Let’s go, Brewers!

In case you’re wondering why I’m cheering for the Brewers tonight, it’s because a Brewers loss would clinch the NL Central for the Cubs … in the middle of their game against the Cardinals. So, like Brett, an ideal world would see a Brewers win tonight combined with a Cardinals loss at the hands of the Cubs.

That way, the Cubs can celebrate on the field in front of the Cardinals (and, hopefully, #NachoMan) while further hurting their chances at the one remaining Wild Card spot.

Jake Arrieta is starting for the Cubs tonight in what will be his second start back since returning from a hamstring injury earlier this month. His first start, while purposefully abbreviated, was nothing short of a success, but now we’ll see if he can go a further distance tonight. To be sure, he’ll probably get one more game before the season is over, but if he does well again tonight, you might want to start penciling him in as the likely NLDS Game One starter.

Opposing Arrieta tonight is Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez. The last time Martinez faced the Cubs (September 15) he legitimately cruised through five innings before getting absolutely demolished for seven earned runs in the sixth. Hopefully, the Cubs do the same amount of damage, but perhaps get to him a little earlier later tonight.

Remember: No Yadier Molina tonight, as he left the game and entered MLB’s concussion protocol last night (after taking two consecutive foul balls off his mask). Hopefully, he’s alright.

IT’S CLINCHING TIME, BABY.
