Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 2, Cardinals 1 – September 28, 2017

Enhanced Box Scores

For the Cubs, tonight’s game was about resting the regulars after clinching last night, and having some fun with some guys who haven’t had a chance to start too many games.

For the Cardinals, it was about keeping the dream alive:

Even against the Cubs’ B squad, though, they couldn’t do it. With tonight’s loss, the Cardinals were eliminated from postseason contention. Oh, and it ended when Leonys Martin robbed a might-have-been homer for the final out. Ouch.

Kyle Hendricks was reeeeeeally good, and it’s only going to expand the conversation about when he starts in the postseason. The bullpen pitched very well, too, with special nods to Dillon Maples and Justin Wilson, each of whom walked the leadoff guy, and then struck out the next three.

Ian Happ had a solo shot early, and Taylor Davis scored Kyle Schwarber in the 11th to win this one after Jen-Ho Tseng finished things off.

Full box score.
