Cubs Throw It Back to Anthony Rizzo’s First Walk-Off Homer, and Boy Is His Swing Different

Today, the Cubs threw back Thursday to a particularly great video: Anthony Rizzo’s first walk-off homer, back in 2012.

And it wasn’t just any walk-off homer – it came off of then-rookie Cardinals pitcher Trevor Rosenthal (@Cubs):

That’s just a lot of fun to watch right there, and it’s crazy to think that Rizzo just played in his SIXTH season with the Cubs.

How about that setup and swing, eh? Remember when lowering his hands was such a huge offseason story for Rizzo after the trade to the Cubs that past offseason? Pretty obvious in that video, eh? And that bat waggle, wow.

Rizzo’s actually gone through a number of swing iterations in his time with the Cubs, finally mostly settling the last two years on a slightly more crouched stance with the bat held higher and further away from his body. There’s almost no bat waggle now, and he uses a much more pronounced leg kick (@Cubs):
