Earlier today, we learned that things were getting very serious between the Marlins and Giants on the Giancarlo Stanton front, with an offer on the table that seemed to be acceptable to both of those teams.
The only question, then, was whether Stanton would invoke his no-trade rights to block a deal. An earlier report indicated that, if things got to this point, the Marlins would grant the trading team a 48 to 72-hour window in which to convince Stanton to accept the deal.

It seems a pretty fair bet, if Mish’s report is accurate, that the meeting in LA is the start of a process of getting Stanton to accept a trade. They wouldn’t be permitted to talk to his representatives like this unless there was permission from the Marlins, and I’m assuming there wouldn’t be permission from the Marlins if there wasn’t a deal in place.
So this could really be happening …
