The Cubs concluded their Cactus League slate with a win today, beating the Royals 5-3. That gave the Cubs a third place finish in the Cactus League, which means THEY’RE GOING TO THE SPRING TRAINING PLAYOFFS! … (no, that does not exist).
- The Cubs won the game in the 9th inning thanks to a couple Cubs prospect homers. First, catcher Ian Rice yanked a two-run liner by the left field foul pole, and then outfielder Trey Martin did the exact same thing.

- Ben Zobrist led off today, as he’ll do sometimes this year (likely when he’s playing, when Ian Happ isn’t playing, and when there isn’t a lefty on the mound), and he went 2-2 with a walk.
- Kyle Hendricks pitched 4.0 scoreless innings with a couple walks and a couple strikeouts. The walks were his first ones of the entire spring. Fine. Go get ’em later this week, my frent:

- Bullpen competitor Anthony Bass pitched a scoreless inning with a walk and a strikeout. We’ll see what the Cubs elect to do with that final bullpen spot (or two, if Pedro Strop starts on the DL), but I’m not sure there’s a spot for him unless Strop is out.
